Driving Force Womens Golf Club
75 Power Driving Afflulent African-American Women headed by Margie Lee, wife of ASU President Joe Lee and Sandy Osborne began their first lesson at the Back-9 Golf Learning Center where Lee fell in love with the game. On Jan. 27, the women held their first charter meeting at Arrowhead Country Club with 42 in attendance. The women selected the club's officers, which currently consist of president Margie Lee, vice president Essie McGhee, secretary Hattie Robinson, treasurer Sandy Osborne, and parliamentarian Patricia Elliott. They also voted the club name "Driving Force Golf Club," which was later amended to "Driving Force Women's Golf Club."To improve its golf skills, Driving Force held three golf clinics -- two at Gateway Golf Course and one at Lagoon Park Golf Course -- and had additional learning opportunities available at the Back-9 Golf Learning Center and Gateway Golf Course. The ladies of Driving Force Golf Club have created quite a buzz around town as the premiere Golf Association for Women of Color. Most recently they were seen volunteering at the Calhoun Foods Celebrity Golf Tournament and the Navistar Womens LPGA Tour at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Prattville, which recieved huge national press and has a 3 year commitment to the River Region. The Golf Club's membership is expected to increase to 100 by the end of the year.
